[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.] TRACK: Pissing on Bonfires/Kissing with Tongues

been listening to these guys a lot lately. i think the initial appeal came from presence of more than a little frightened rabbit in here. (and it’s not just the accent. he’s got that same plaintive yearn lodged somewhere between his heart and his larynx.) but their influence reaches well beyond the basic guitars and drums of scott and friends. there’s some shoegaze fuzz, plenty of electronics, even a banjo from time to time. i mean, it’s really interesting stuff. one of those bands you can’t really get a grasp on with just one song…

[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.] TRACK: Backwards Walk
ARTIST: Frightened Rabbit
ALBUM: The Midnight Organ Fight (2008) ...

saved the best for last. like yesterday’s, this track was from the season premiere. it was actually the ubiquity of frightened rabbit music during the 2nd season of chuck that made me sit up and take notice of just how good the soundtrack was. and whether chuck had anything to do w/ it or not, these guys are everywhere now. (i remember when they couldn’t fill the Roxy.) but the success is very well-deserved. yeah, the songs they write are simple, and the lyrics can be downright campy, but Scott Hutchison sells it all with one of most expressive voices to hit pop music since that snow patrol guy. (seriously, scotland, preach it.) anyways, i’ll leave you now with a deep thought from Mr. Hutchison et al:

I’m working hard on walking out,
But my shoes keep sticking to the ground.
My clothes won’t let me close the door.
These trousers seem to love your floor.
lovely. enjoy your weekend. -d

*in all seriousness, i do actually really love these guys, like, a lot. this song is actually on a CD i made of my top 222 songs of all time. so.
