*blip festival is an all 8bit new york city music festival. if, like me, you’re stuck on the west coast this weekend, dailymotion is streaming a good chunk of the performances. as always, i’d recommend checking out animaniguchi.

by their own admission, anamanaguchi makes “loud, fast music with a hacked NES from 1985”. what sets them apart from most of the rest of the chiptune world (and where their modesty sells them way short) is that they actually write super catchy poppunk tunes that just happen to be primarily 8bit. most chip music is about the sounds. this stuff is actually music. and damn good music at that. -d
